  Basically, a refurbished laptop should work and be useful simply like another PC would. The main distinction is that the workstation has more years on it.   I thought the same until flickering came back. At the end battery became swollen and screen popped out. I guess if you use it on and off like that then it may remain fine.

  I have seen owners of all versions complained about the issue but in my experience, i5 & i7 had the most complaints on the forums. Issues is somewhat heat related and somewhat battery related. I wasn't able to replace my SP4 so it's screened popped out due to swollen battery and same incident was reported by others on Reddit. I guess higher processing causes more heat damaging the battery and possibly the screen.
